The Sawyer is a very “unique” piece in Arc’teryx’s product line. If you’re used to Arc’teryx’s high-stretch, form-fitting, and feature-packed jackets, this retro-styled, rugged wool jacket might not be to your taste.

then the Sawyer is definitely worth owning. It’s not a “one-size-fits-all” piece, but a rugged jacket with a strong style and a powerful presence.

The Sawyer uses Arc’teryx’s proprietary Tech Wool fabric, essentially a wool blend technical fabric. It has a slightly stiff and rough feel, unlike the smooth, skin-friendly feel of its sibling, Gamma MX. However, it has a solid texture and is very durable. This is not a softshell suitable for wearing next to the skin; personally, I feel it leans towards a “hardshell” wool jacket design. The surface has a slight nap, giving it a “proper wool coat” feel, but its functionality is far superior to a typical wool coat.
Fit and Wearing Feel: Not form-fitting, exudes confidence.
Sawyer uses a three-dimensional cut, resulting in a looser overall fit. It doesn’t have the “softshell feel” of a traditional Arc’teryx jacket, but rather resembles a functional wool coat. The shoulders have a structured look, creating a sharp and polished appearance. It’s best worn as an outer layer, not suitable for layering under a hardshell jacket.
